About Us

Rising Women Organization Is a grassroots environmental and climate justice organization rooted in the communities most impacted by climate change and other environmental injustices. We build women-led climate justice movements, mobilize women’s participation in decision-making spaces, and work toward dismantling power structures that perpetuate gender inequalities. Our mission is to raise awareness and advocate for the protection of the environment, health, families, and communities from the impacts of climate change and socio-environmental injustices.

Women in Climate Action

Why Women?

Women are crucial in climate justice work in cities and municipalities because they are often the most affected by climate change and can be powerful changemakers:

  • Climate justice recognizes the link between social justice and gender equality.
  • Climate justice focuses on the needs of those most impacted by environmental degradation and natural disasters.
  • Women are powerful changemakers.

We support women to play a key role in addressing the climate crisis by:

  • Increasing their representation in decision-making processes.
  • Adopting innovative and preventative measures.
  • Leading in conservation and natural resource management.
  • Empowering other women and girls to claim environmental rights.
  • Developing gender-transformative approaches to legal and institutional processes.

Focus on Cities and Municipalities

Cities and municipalities play a crucial role in climate action. Through the Cities and Municipalities Climate Action Programme, we support local governments in gathering data on gender perspectives to inform climate-resilient planning and advocate for women's rights, climate justice, and gender equality. Women can help make climate planning processes more inclusive and effective by taking on leadership roles and making critical decisions in planning and policy-making.

Through the Cities and Municipalities Climate Action Programme, we:

  • Support local governments in gathering data on gender perspectives to inform climate-resilient planning.
  • Work for gender equality, women's rights, and climate justice.
  • Give adolescent girls and women leadership roles in climate planning and policy-making.
  • Lobby for women to be included in decision-making bodies such as environmental and climate change committees, land boards, and court users' committees.
  • Help women exercise their voice and agency in decision-making, access community resources, and challenge social norms.
